Subspace is done. It was really done yesterday, but I felt the urge to smooth out the code, do a little documenting, and adjust the feel. I’m happy with how it turned out. At some point, assuming I ever get around to allowing many more jump points, I’ll have to see how it fairs with longer travel. For now, though, I think it’s pretty nifty.
Another fun bit I did today was animate John Kelly’s planets. He’d built them to be individual frames that were intended for different views, not really for animations. There are only a few frames each, so if you try to animate them at any speed that doesn’t look like one jolted jump to the next, you’d have people flying off the planets! haha
So what I did was slowly morph one frame to the next, using the alpha channel. It actually looks pretty nifty, especially since I have each planet morphing at different rates. If you just fly into a zone and don’t pay attention, you may not even notice it happening, but if you watch a planet for any length of time you’ll be shocked at the amazing display! ::cough::
Progress
- Finalized subspace stuff.
- Mostly just tweaked the code a bit for clarity.
- Did some minor speed adjustments for gameplay mechanics.
- Planets now animate
- They morph from frame to frame.
